On October 2, 2007, Showtime filed seven applications to protect the trademark United States of Tara, the upcoming comedy being developed by DreamWorks Television, based on an original concept by Steven Spielberg. The show, dubbed “The United States of Tara” by Variety earlier this year, is written and produced by Diablo Cody, an LA-based writer and blogger, and centers around a wife and mother of two teenage kids who suffers from dissociative identity (formerly multiple personality) disorder. Showtime President Robert Greenblatt describes the show as “Weeds” meets “Sybil”.
