On August 24, 2007, singer-actor Andre Benjamin, also known as Andre 3000 from the hip hop duo Outkast, filed to protect the trademark The Vultures. In addition to the filing that covers the music, additional filings were made to protect in the name in relation to live performances and music videos, a variety of printed materials as well as a variety of clothing items and apparel. These recent filings seem to suggest Benjamin’s renewed interest in the name, which he attempted to trademark for sound recordings and performances back in 2002 but abandoned in 2006.
Andre Benjamin goes by a variety of aliases, including Johnny Vulture, the name he used on Gwen Stefani’s CD Love.Angel.Music.Baby. which he produced. This seems to suggest the origin of The Vultures name. While there are several existing bands called The Vultures (one from Missouri, one from Connecticut and one from Germany), none of them seem to have any relation to Andre Benjamin.
Benjamin has stated recently that he is making a solo album. Mork wonders if this name has any relation to that effort, to a non-Outkast band effort, or to Benjamin’s animated Cartoon Network show Class of 3000. Either way, Mork says “Hey Ya!”.
