Brooklyn Nets

03.11.08 | No Comments

On March 8, 2008, New Jersey Basketball, LLC filed to protect the trademark Brooklyn Nets in relation to a variety of goods and services, including:

Brooklyn Nets: television broadcasting, web-casting and wireless communication services

Brooklyn Nets: toys, games and sporting goods

Brooklyn Nets: online retail store services

Brooklyn Nets: video game programs; online non-downloadable software for viewing basketball news

New Jersey Basketball, LLC and real estate developer Bruce Ratner are the owners of the the New Jersey Nets, the NBA team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In 2005, the Nets announced plans to move the team back to New York, this time locating the team in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. Ever since, there has been speculation regarding what the team will be called once it moves to its new Brooklyn location.

While New Jersey Basketball has previously filed trademark applications for Brooklyn Nets and New York Nets, most of these filings were made back in 2004. Mork wonders if these recent filings indicate that the Brooklyn Nets name is a go.
