Bravonation

11.01.07 | No Comments

On October 26, 2007, Yahoo! Inc filed to protect the trademark Bravonation. The filing relates the mark to “non-downloadable software to create on-line media and badges used to acknowledge and display achievements” and “providing a service that allows people and entities to recognize achievements and create incentives by way of electronic awards”.

With the use of “badges” and “achievements” in one filing, Mork’s guess is that Yahoo! is preparing to roll out an XBox Live-style achievement system for a collection of their popular games, where players earn special badges for completing tasks or levels or defeating certain bosses.

Kongregate, a Flash game community based in San Francisco, launched a similar achievements system for their games earlier this year. Along with real-time chat and other interactive and community-based features, achievement systems serve to foster participation, growth and stability in an online gaming community (end of Gaming 2.0 business-plan-speak).
